Introduction
The Department of Economic Management was renamed from the Department of Quantitative Analysis in 2024. Over the course of its development alongside the Faculty of Economics and Management (formerly the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development), the Department has been structured to align with the educational and research goals of the Faculty and the University. Currently, the Department oversees two undergraduate programs in Economic Management and Digital Economy, as well as a postgraduate program in Economic Management.

Educational Responsibilities
The Department is responsible for teaching various courses across undergraduate programs such as Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Economic Management, Planning and Investment, Accounting, Business Administration, Logistics, Banking and Finance, Agribusiness, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry, Agronomy, and Land and Environmental Management. For postgraduate education, the Department offers courses in Agricultural Economics, Economic Management, Development Economics, Human Resource Development and Management, and Business Administration.
The department is currently involved in teaching several modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including quantitative analysis courses like Economic Statistics, Applied Statistics, Econometrics, Economic Mathematics, Application of IT in Economics, and Big Data Analysis for Economics, etc. Additionally, the department offers courses in economic management, such as Managerial Economics, Value Chain Management, Information Systems and Data Management, Market Organization and Activities, Game Theory and Applications, and Agricultural Market Analysis, etc.
Members of the department supervise students' scientific research projects, undergraduate theses, and specialized graduation topics. Associate professors and Ph.D. holders also supervise master's theses and doctoral dissertations across various research fields.
Research Activities
The Department's research focuses on applying both quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze socio-economic phenomena policies analysis and behavioral studies. Current research areas include:
(i) Value chain and agricultural supply chain management,
(ii) Household economics and related topics,
(iii) Rural economics,
(iv) Agricultural markets,
(v) Digital transformation in economic management and business,
(vi) Risk assessment in agriculture, and
(vii) Impact evaluation of programs and projects.
Some notable ongoing projects include:
- The NIFAM project funded by the University of Bonn, Germany: "Nutrition Intervention Forecasting and Monitoring," in collaboration with the University of Bonn and the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute.
- A provincial-level project funded by the Department of Science and Technology of Hai Duong Province: "Research and propose solutions for developing sustainable ecological agriculture models linked to experiential tourism in Hai Duong Province."
- The ACIAR project AGB/2020/189: "Integrating smallholder households and farm production systems into commercial beef supply chains in Vietnam" in collaboration with the University of Tasmania and the National Institute of Animal Science.
- The ACIAR project AGB/2012/060 funded by the Australian Government: "Improving smallholder incomes in the north-western highlands of Vietnam by increasing access and competitiveness in regional temperate and subtropical fruit markets" in collaboration with the University of Queensland and other Vietnamese institutions.
- The ACIAR project LPS/2010/047 project funded by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI): " Reducing disease risks and improving food safety in smallholder pig value chains in Vietnam" in collaboration with ILRI, Hanoi University of Public Health, and the Veterinary Faculty of Vietnam National University of Agriculture.
- The Hoa Binh provincial project: "Evaluation of the new rural development program in Hòa Bình Province from 2010 to 2013, with proposed solutions for mobilizing all social resources to accelerate the progress of the program until 2020." This project was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), and the Rural Development Sub-Department of Hòa Bình Province.
- ACIAR Project LPS/2008/049: "Overcoming technical and market constraints to the emergence of profitable beef enterprises in the north-western highlands of Vietnam". This project was funded by the Australian Government and conducted in collaboration with the University of Tasmania (Australia), the National Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), the Center for Agrarian Systems Research and Development (CASRAD), and the Institute of Food Crops and Plants.
- ACIAR Project AGB/2008/002: "Improved market engagement for sustainable upland production systems in the north-western highlands of Vietnam". Funded by the Australian Government, this project was carried out in cooperation with the University of Queensland (Australia), the Northern Mountainous Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (NOMAFSI), the Plant Protection Institute (PPI), CASRAD, and the Institute of Food Crops and Plants.
- In addition to these, the department has undertaken various other projects at the national, provincial, and institutional levels.
Many of the department’s faculty members have provided consulting services to international development organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and various provincial authorities across different socio-economic fields.
Collaborations
The Department collaborates with numerous domestic and international partners in interdisciplinary and specialized research projects. These include universities and institutions such as the University of Sydney, University of Queensland, University of Tasmania, University of Adelaide, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and various Vietnamese research institutes. Additionally, the Department works with several local authorities and organizations, including Departments of Science and Technology in various provinces.
