INTRODUCTION
Department of Resources and Environmental Economics, established in 2008, is a unit under the Faculty of Economics and Management, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). The establishment of the Department marked an important turning point for the development of the Faculty of Economics and Management in order to promptly meet the needs of program renewal and diversification of training specialties of the Faculty and VNUA. The Department of Resources and Environmental Economics has been and is a key organization in training and fostering disciplines and subjects related to the field of economics and management of resources and environment, contributing the education of economic staff with deep expertise throughout the provinces and cities across the country.
Currently, the Department has 11 lecturers, including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 8 doctors, and 1 master with long-term formal training in Vietnam, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Belgium, and Thailand. The lecturers of the Department are all dedicated to the profession, always striving, upholding the spirit of self-study and self-training. Along with a team of lecturers who have many years of teaching and research experience, the young generation staff is constantly improving their capacity and qualifications, being enthusiastic, dynamic and creative in their work, contributing to ensuring the long-term development of the Department.
DEPARTMENT’S DEVELOPMENT ORIENTATION
- Education: Always updating and improving teaching contents, in order to provide learners with the latest and foundational knowledge, meeting the requirements of country's economic development. Key education areas include Economics & management of natural resources and environment and Management & development of human resources.
- Scientific research: Strengthening the implementation of scientific research with high applicability, solving urgent problems in practice, contributing to the improvement of management policies at local and national levels. In addition, members of the department actively publish research results in prestigious domestic and foreign journals, enhancing the scientific position of the Department, Faculty and VNUA.
- Cooperation: Maintaining and promoting links with domestic and foreign organizations, constantly expanding relations with international organizations, becoming a prestigious partner in scientific research - technology and education.
EDUCATION MISSION
Economics of Natural Resources and Environment is a new scientific field not only for developing countries but also for developed countries. This field of science has just begun to be formed in the 60s - 70s of the twentieth century and strongly developed in the 90s in developed countries. In Vietnam, Economics of Natural Resources and Environment was only introduced in the early 1990s and is still a relatively new discipline. Up to now, the economics and management of natural resources has become an important field. Vietnam and the world are facing problems of environmental pollution, the depletion of non-renewable resources, the disappearance of flora and fauna species, the decrease in forest quality and area, the problem of climate change leading to serious natural disasters. These phenomena threaten human life as well as cause great economic losses. Therefore, the exploitation, use, protection and development of resources and environment in a reasonable and sustainable way, harmoniously combining economic growth and protection of resources and environment becomes an urgent task.
The mission of the Department of Resources and Environmental Economics is to educate human resources at the undergraduate and graduate levels with high quality, deep professional competence, and the ability to analyze, make policy, manage and solve problems in the field of resources and environmental economics as well as human resource development and management at different levels of the economy. Modules are taught according to the commonly used textbooks of universities in advanced countries for undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to regularly updating teaching content and adding new knowledge in the world, the curriculum and lectures are also applied appropriately by the Department in connection with the reality and specific conditions in Vietnam. thereby helping learners to grasp professional knowledge and skills easily and apply in practice.
