Last Thursday (March 14th, 2024), the Faculty of Economics & Rural Development (FERD) had the honor of welcoming Professor John H. Barnett from Emporia State University, USA, along with his wife, to visit and collaborate with the Department's leaders and share research findings with faculty members and students. As an American who has devoted considerable attention to Vietnam, Professor John H. The project “Market-based approaches to improving the safety of pork in Vietnam” (SafePORK) was carried out from 2017 to 2023 with a number of activities in five provinces (Hanoi, Hung Yen, Nghe An, Hoa Binh and Thai Nguyen). The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and three partners in Vietnam have implemented the project. Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), particularly Department of Agricultural Economics and Policies (DAEP), and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have long and close relationships in education, training and research. Most of the lecturers of DAEP have graduated from AIT. DAEP and AIT have successfully held several study tours for people who work in the public sector, private sector and NGOs from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Lao PDR. On February 24th, 2023, the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development (FERD) was pleased to welcome a delegation of Australian experts including Assoc. Prof. Gordon Rogers, Managing Director of Applied Horticultural Research Ltd. - lecturer at the University of Sydney, Dr. Oleg Nicetic, University of Queensland, together with experts from the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and representatives from the ACIAR Vietnam Country Office visited and worked at the Faculty. Attending the meeting with the delegation, on the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development's side, there were the Faculty's Deans and lecturers who had studied and researched in Australia, and participated in the implementation of collaborative research projects funded by ACIAR.
